Birgit Ruff

The ecological reigns with assurance in Birgit Ruff's mixed media works on paper.
Using the literary work "The Chemical Wedding" as her inspiration, she creates the illusion of pools, tunnels, wells, forest glens, and labyrinths in highly textured miniature collages (3.5 x 2.5 inches). Her colours are subtle and organic like vegetable dyes. In larger works, she explores the themes essence, matter, source, by collaborating with plants to form mandalas.
"The work is balanced, vibrant and at peace, reassuring us in our modern stress that this earthly existence is a nourishing, wondrous one," writes Canadian artist and gallery owner Julie Oakes.
