Heather Nagel

Picture
Heather Nagel is a fibre artist on a journey of boundless, joyful discovery.

Over the years, Heather has experimented with various creative mediums through workshops with individual artists and courses at the Dundas Valley School of Art and the Haliburton School of Art but when she discovered, and abandoned herself to the art of felting, the threads that connected her creative soul with the natural world began to weave a new, and vibrant material
.
Working with an array of fibre including wool, silk, bamboo, cotton
and linen Heather uses both the wet and needle felting technique to create unique pieces that are both, inspired by nature and made from the materials of the natural world.

A recent opportunity to journey unbounded into the art of creating has taken her work to an exciting next level. Using recycled wool blankets and sweaters, Heather re-imagines purpose and form: deconstructing one essence to reconstruct another. Seeing and touching the fibre itself is often the source of her design. She is unbridled in her passion to make functional art that reflects her desire to create a greener consciousness.
Heather’s art redefines and energizes the traditional uses of fibre and she continues to joyfully explore the world of colour and design as she moves from making a living to living through making. It’s a wild ride and she is holding on by a colourful thread.
